　Recently I`ve started to notice a number of sxamples of what seem to me to confused spoken Japanese. By confused Japanese, I mean cases in which the person speaking or writing doesn`t seem to clearly understand the word or phrase they are using. This results in language which is often ambiguous and difficult to understand. Now it may be that it`s just my inability at Japanese that is causing this. I have known Japanese teachers of English who try to correct native speakers` English based on grammar rules which were obsolete 50 years ago. I don`t want to be like that.
　Anyway see what you think. Examples of confused Japanese that I have noticed include; 私は料理にこだわる人だ、カミングアウトする、今年のファッションのマスト、and エレガンスな. According to my dictionary, こだわる refer to a fussy attention to irrelevant details. People seem to be using it in place of 凝る. This is like the English speakers who use "aggravate" to mean "annoy", when it`s traditonaal meaning is "to make worse". I accept that language changes, but it seems a shame when precise and useful words like こだわる or "aggravate" lose their meanings.
　The other examples are all derived from English. If Japanese people want to use English words all the time, why not just speak in English? カミングアウトする,and マスト are just english alone, translated literally into Japanese. They are many usefull and atractive-sounding Japanese words representing the various meanings of "elegance", so why not use them? Especially as "elegance" is a noun, not an adjective.
　Lack of care in Japanese spreads to other areas of life. The use of inappropriate katakana words not only makes Japanese a poorer language, it also interferes with Japanese peoples` ability to learn foreign language. So let`s protect our native tongues together, shall we?

　おかしな日本語を挙げればきりがありませんが（例えば Sports is Energy.どこが間違っているかは読者の皆さんにお任せします）、今回は日本語の乱れについて述べたいと思います。
　最近になって私は、混乱した口語と思われる表現に気付き始めました。その表現の意味を明瞭に理解せずに使い、その結果、意味不明瞭となっているものです。もちろん日本語があまり巧くないために、私が誤解していることもあるでしょう。日本人英語教師の中には50年も前に消失した文法でもってネイティブスピーカーの文法ミスを直してあげようとする人がいますが、私はそんな尊大なことをするつもりはありません。
　とはいえ、「私は料理にこだわる人だ」「カミングアウトする」「今年のファッションのマスト」「エレガンスな」という表現についてどう思われますか。私の持っている辞書によれば「こだわる」とは、くだらないことに拘泥することであるのに、最近は「凝る」という言葉の代わりによく使われているようです。これはネイティブスピーカーが aggravate という単語を、本来の「悪化させる」という意味で誤用しているのと同じです。言葉は変化します。しかし明確な意味を持つ単語が、本来の意味を失うのは残念なことです。
　そのほかは英語が日本語化した例です。そんなに英単語を使いたいのなら、何故英語で話さないのでしょうか。「カミングアウトする」と「マスト」は英語の俗語をそのまま日本語化したもの。また「エレガンス」は名詞なのに形容詞として使われています。日本語には elegant を意味する美しい響きを持った言葉がたくさんあるのに、どうして使わないのでしょう。
　言葉の意味を大切にしないということは、生活の他の部分にも影響します。不適切なカタカナの使用は日本語を貧しいものにするだけでなく、外国語学習を阻害します。お互いに母国語を大事にしませんか。
